Thinking of buying a domain.

So, yesterday I was daydreaming and came up with a pretty nice domain. It was available. I thought maybe i did the spelling wrong or something, or it is a domain nobody wants, otherwise it would be taken.

But either way I want to risk it, I mean seriously it's not like im risking a fortune here But I would like to ask you a bit about selling domains etc, how does it work and how shall I do to get the most out of my domain?

Shall I sit on it for a couple of years and then sell it, shall I go to sedo (or what companies could be better?) etc. I am totally new to the domain business and so far only bought domains for sites I am currently using.

So well, to make a long story short, how should I sell the domain? Got any nice tips to share with me?

Thanks,
Kalle.

You can start checking the traffic that the domain got. Park it at SEDO for example yes,

You can easily sit on it for a year if you want, or sell it immediately.

If its a decent one, you should get a 100 % ROI in notime (double the investment) but ofcourse it can give you lots and lots more!!

If the domain is good but does not get any traffic, why not develop it? and sell it as a website?

but ok, if you want only to buy and sell domains, you can advertise your domain on several forums like NamePros or DNF !!

Okay, well if I would sell the domain on a Sedo auction, how much of the profit would they take? Is there any better place to anounce an auction at?

Sedo is a good place to sell your domain in auction, I sold one poker domain there for 410 euro!

They take 10% of the deal!

I don't think you will make much by parking it, as if it's not registered at this moment that means no one has really thought about it. Although if it's quite catchy you might be able to sell it for a good price! I say buy it!

I agree. I have parked several domains at sedo and I am not earning anything there.
It's better to find a catchy name and sells it. The shorter the domain name the better.

OP: You should check out http://www.ygrab.com and http://www.namenewbie.com. These are 2 great sites that will point you in the right direction for domaining. Also after you check those 2 sites out and get and understanding of whats what head over to http://www.namepros.com and do some reading there. Good Luck!
