There might just keep comming new extensions to the domains, like .net, .org etc etc. And just like in real world, all companies can't be at the same neighboorhood. In the beggining of US I bet most companies wanted to be in NY but eventually they had to move further out of town, and the prices of the grounds of Manhattan just rose and rose, at the same pace new companies came and the inhabitant number increased.
Might be the same thing with domains, .com domains will be like manhattan and .whatever will be the bad neighboorhoods, and the newer they are the bader they will be.
If that is the case, saving all the domains you've got and sell them in 30 years wouldn't be a bad deal, or why not 100
