Preperations needed for changing your host?
So I have created a few little site, one a vBulletin forum, one links directory, a Wordpress blog and a smaller 'million pixels' type thing.
Up to now I've been using shared Linux hosting from Godaddy, but they dont allow you to view Logs and run proxies (for my own personal use - SSH ). Never having wanted to change my host before, I'm fully noob at this, but today I FTP downloaded my sites maintaining their current structure and have it all sat on the hard drive. Just wondering what the process will be for transfering all this to the new hosts, the domains are registered with GoDaddy also. Any kind help is appreciated! Swerve |

Hi Nomar!
This sounds like a great idea, I did backup the forum (via the AdminCP) before the downloading, will have to check on the blog and directory for confirmation. I'm sticking with shared Linux hosting, the sites use little bandwidth/CPU, they are mostly just for fun and playing round with. Was thinking about Dreamhosts as they have a ll the features I need (and CPanel) , Godaddy's control panel is kinda poor. |

There are a lot of good hosts... Dreamhost is a massive overseller and they don't give you anything they promise.
I can offer you a good deal with some hosting if your looking for a good host ![]() If not... its a good idea to change your name servers whilst uploading as time your files have been uploaded and work... your name servers would have changed to the new host.

Yes this is quite a delicate process.
0. You may need to change the directory in your configuration panel like localhost/forums... if you change your next site to be only localhost( not necessary if you don't change the directory. 1. Download all of your files, 2. Change the config.php(mostly known as) and change your database info (localhost should stay the same) 3. set up database for the site with the name responding to the config files. 4. download/backup all your mysql database. 5. upload all your databases to your mysql(or other db structures) (you may want to do 4-5 one database at a time) 6. upload all your files to your new host. 7. Done...
