Heh i been using a bunch of different web hosts and i would have to say i recommend a couple of them depending on what kind of website you are thinking of making.
Bluehost.com and Hostmonster.com: Starting Cost is $5.95/Month
Both are owned by the same company but basically every thing is the same. I have been using them for 3-4 years and i must say there service is top notch. You can contact support through chat or phone and they dont stop helping you till the job is done. Servers have never been down for me, except once for about an hour, hurricane katrina was booboo =(.
You get:- 300GB space, and its been increasing every couple of months. I started the plan with only 20gb of space and it upgraded ever since, all you have to do it request it and they do it for free.
- 3TB Bandwith, that is alot! and also increases along with space =)
- Unlimited MySQL!
- Unlimited hosted Domains and Transfers
- Free First Web Domain, Free Forever
- Easy to use Cpanel
- Unlimited Emails I believe
There are more great stuff, but those are the essentials =), I would say Hostmonster is way more friendlier and support lines are more available than bluehost.
Dreamhost.com]: Starting is $7.95/Month
Gotta Love this one for those who want alot of space and bandwith!
Although the Rates are pretty low when you first sign up, The amount of space and bandwith increase everyweek!
It is perfect for those who want to open a site with plenty of media files!
I have been using them for about 2 years, service is great and servers are always up, only had one down time in my experience. The support forums are user based, but are quite helpful. The staff are always willing to help, and their support system is quite funny because theres an option to say " HELP URGENT asoihdoiahgrg"
Overall Very Nice and Long Runing webhost services.
WEBHOSTS TO AVOID!
1and1.com: Starting is $4.99
OMG, i have had the worst experience with these guys =/
The support is one of the biggest issues. They are willing to take your money very quickly and easily, but when you are seeking help with technical issues, they take days to respond since their email system is so darn slow =/.
I ran into trouble when trying to run my scripts. Some scripts i remember weren't compatible with the host and refused to run. Also when making mysql databases, they don't let you make your own, but randomly generates them to something like for example: Database: genit12357 Password: 1235bff
Something complicated like that, talk about inconvenience. Don't be fooled by all the ads you see in the computer magazines. The plans are great, but for the prices you are paying there are better hosts with better support like the ones above
Godaddy.com: Starting is $3.99
Hmm Godaddy is only great for their domain services and packages, but in terms of webhosting, i find the site frustrating and confusing. The most complicated feature you'll first notice is the admincp itself, i must admit im a fan of the clean and icon filled control panels. If you want to find your way in godaddy, it takes forever to find what you want.
Also the hosting servers itself feel extremily laggy. Everytime i tried to access my pages, there would be a slight delay before i get to what i want.
I tried to cancel a domain so i wouldnt be charged with a renewal fee, i did so in the complicated admin cpanel. When the domain expired they charged me! I call them and the support man was like " Oh i see you have cancelled the domain a week ago, sorry about that =), ill refund you immediately" . Glitchy system they have there
Besides that, their support phone lines are really quick and helpful. I would only recommend using them for Domain purchases since they always have deals.
Hope you guys like my pointers
