Linux vs windows servers?

I was looking at the packages on godaddy.com and was wondering if I were to get one what is the difference between linux and windows, what can each provide better for your website...

Most people use Linux because it works with mainly everything and because its simple to use.

I use Linux for my desktop as well as servers.

It tends to be a little less resource-hungry. As long as you have a panel and the like, you most likely won't notice a large difference between the two. In VPS and Dedicated servers, Linux is usually cheaper.

i have used windows as a server for my asp.net applications

the main difference between unix and windows servers is that unix can use php while windows can use asp.net. some windows servers can also use php

I would like to suggest you to opt for linux. It is more user friendly and simple. Linux is cheaper and works on almost everything.
